Thank you so much, I spent two full days trying to figure this out doing the same things you did with mp luck. I have Windows 7 home premium. I went to the installshield Installation Information directory on the C drive as you said and found the same Folder {9527A496-5DF9-412A-ADC7-168BA5379CA} and moved it to my desktop and FSX finally installed. Its apparent that installshield does not delete this. Know I know where to look first when I have an install issue.

FSX Deluxe unable to uninstall or repair
I am at my wits end with my FSX Deluxe
I have tried to uninstall via the Control Panel > Remove Software option.
Nothing happens and FSX won't uninstall
I then tried to the Uninstall / Repair option using Disc 1
I get the following message
"Error 1605 This action is only valid for products that are currently
installed.
I have tried using mskb928080.exe and get the following Error
"HRESULT 80004005
Can anyone suggest a solution so that I can get my FSX working again.

What problems are you having that caused you to uninstall it? Assuming yo
want to uninstall it at this point you can assume it's uninstalled - or a
least thinks it is. Delete the FS directory assuming you don't hav
anything you want to keep in it. Then reinstall FSX

Okay, I see. At this point Windows thinks FSX is gone. Delete th
directory for FSX as you did. Then just do a reinstall - NOT an uninstall.
This will put back all the registry entries, etc so Windows knows about FS
again. Then at that point you can delete FSX if you want but you have
new copy. If you have space zip or tar up the FS directory and save th
zip file or tarball somewhere. Then if you want to get back to th
original remove the FSX directory and unzip the saved zip file. However
you will loose any add-ons, etc. that were installed but it's a fast way t
get back to a clean install. I've used it when testing FSX add-ons, etc

Hi Tony
I tried your link and tried Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. FSX didi not
appear on the list of programmes on the installer Window.
I also tried another suggestion on the InstallShield site which was to delet
temporary files and update to the latest Installshield Installation Engines.
Still getting same error message.
I tried System Restore to a couple of earlier dates but could not uninstall
FSX.
Any other suggestions ?

Charliebrown,
I really feel for you. I originally uninstalled via the add/delete
program in the control panel then deleted the FSX directory.
I was attempting a reinstall yesterday after upgrading my video card and
adding 1 Gig of memory and am in the same "1605" corner as you. I tried
the MS install clean-up routine and it didn't even find the old FSX
info. I deleted all FSX entries in the registry, I found and deleted the
FSX "msi" file in the windows installer directory and I did the same
process as you with the same "HRESULT 80004005" result. Also at the
MS-DOS prompt, entered the path to the FSX setup.exe along with the
V"REINSTALLMODE="omus" command without success. I even manually ran the
the version 11 InstallShield installer from disk #1.
Turned off all other programs , did not help! Copied the install files
to the hard drive , didn't work !!!! I thought that I would drop MS
tech support a query but could not get the required product ID because I
could get the install to work !!!
FSX was residing on the shelf but now resides in the *)&T can. Without
even getting back to the program "good and bad" the ongoing FSX install
problems are worse than disgraceful. I have never seen problems like
this with a retail piece of software. FS2004 will live for a long time
on this machine !!!!

Hi Brett
I have tried suggested ideas from your InstallShield link. Also tried all
the other suggestions like emptying temp folder, and installing version 11
Installshield installer.
I even used System Restore to go back to a couple of restore points but
could still not unininstall and received same errors.
I see JimBob who replied to my post is having a similar problem and I have
tried all the same approaches that he has tried.
Any further suggestions ?

Well Charlie, seems we have to dig a bit further, but I have a feeling we're
closing in.
I'll do a bit of digging while burning the midnight oil - hang on!

P.S. Are you taking care and do a re-boot between every system change? Never
make several attempts at a correction in succession without having a clear
memory and configuration between each attempt! (Have to ask. . .)

charliebrown,
Even though I dumped FSX as a plaything , as an ol' software developer I
could not let the problem go. As I kept searching the net for "1605"
info it became increasingly apparent that this was an InstallShield
problem and not a MS based problem , soooo..... I went looking for
InstallShield stuff on my machine and in C:/Program Files/InstallShield
Installation Information I found a bunch of files with hex chars as
names. I could not get any info from the properties tab on the files but
did notice one that had the same date when I first installed FSuX. I
moved that file to to a temporary folder and restarted the FSX installer
and BINGO , it worked.
Now I don't know if I will get a full install or not but the "1605"
problem is gone. Good Luck !!!!!

You have cracked it. The "InstallShield Installation Information" file is
hidden.
I found a hidden files in C:\ Program Files > InstallShield Installation

There are a whole load of hex character named files as you said and I
removed the one that was dated from the day I installed FSX as you suggested.
Hey presto FSX now installing.
Many Many thanks from a very happy Scotsman.

Okay, that means that parts are still left in the registry and they won't
let you get past it.
First clean out the contents of any temporary directories in the windows
directory and in your user directories. You may have to turn on view
hidden files in explorer. If that doesn't work then as much as I hate to
suggest it you could try a registery cleaner and see if it cleans out the
pieces left behind. I don't use them (I do it by hand when I have to) so I
can't recommend one but maybe someone else can. The final alternative is
editing the registry by hand but I don't recommend that unless you know
what you are doing and where to look for things.
